The RYA motor cruising
and yacht master scheme COASTAL SKIPPER course.
This 5 day course teaches
more advanced skippering techniques for offshore
and coastal passages. The training will (weather
dependent) provide 2 passages over 60 miles
duration including a night passage of at least 4
hours
duration. The student needs to have more
advanced navigation skills up to Coastal Skipper
shore-based standard. Ideally with previous
minimum experience of 15 days (2 as skipper),
300 miles and 8 night hours.

aspects of passage planning
Preparation for sea, including
adverse weather planning
Accurate pilotage techniques by
day and night
Skippering skill development
Use of
radar for collision avoidance,
navigation and pilotage
Emergency situations
Gain the
confidence and competence to skipper
a motor yacht by day and night.
