MCA Certificate of
Competence preparation
Skippers that have achieved the necessary
mileage and developed their skills and
experience may wish to take the independently
assessed ‘RYA Yachtmaster Coastal’ or ‘RYA
Yachtmaster Offshore’ certificates of
competence.
Most skippers elect
to take a few days with a RYA approved
training centre to brush up and hone their
skills prior to their assessment by an
independent RYA examiner.
The minimum sea time required (within 10yrs of
examination) is:-
• RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal.
30 days, 2 days as skipper. 800 miles inc 12
night hours.
• RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore.
50 days, 5 days as skipper. 2,500 miles,
5 passages over 60 miles including 2 overnight
passages as skipper.
With a wealth of experience Estuary Sailing has
highly qualified skippers to meet any advanced
training needs or help you may require. Other
mileage building, night sailing and skill
building is available to hone skills in
preparation for the Certificate of Competence
