Own Boat Tuition |

Listed below are just some
of the areas that can be covered whilst afloat,
both in theory and practice. Please note
these are not RYA courses. Own boat
tuition is designed to help gain confidence and
competence to promote safe enjoyment of your
vessel within the constraints of crew and vessel
capability. RYA courses are recommended to
increase your knowledge base and practical
skills.

- Weather, forecasts
and sea state/Beaufort scale.
- Safety,
lifejackets, harnesses etc.
- Gas, fuel and
electrics on board.
- Crew and vessel
suitability and capabilities.
- VHF usage and
emergency procedure.
- Engine checks.

- Sea sickness.
- First aid.
- Charts and
almanacs
- Basic collision
prevention/some rules of the road.
- Buoyage and light
characteristics.
- Confined channels.
- Boat speed and
SOG.
- Tidal effects, DR
and COG.
- Depths, spring and
neap tides.
- Anchoring, type’s,
warp and chain, suitability of anchorage.
- Anchoring,
checking for drift/holding.
- Sail controls,
hoisting and trim.
- Points of sail,
reefing, heaving to.
- MOB recovery
techniques.
- Marina pontoons,
ferry gliding, wind and tide effects.

Cost = £80 per person for
full day (minimum of 2). As available.
Your vessel should be to a good, well equipped
safe standard. |
